#1014 No big stressors on the same structures

Today on the Doc On The Run podcast, why any runner with any overtraining injury should focus on making sure there are no big stressors on the same structures.

Today I was on a strategy call with an injured, but recovering runner who is trying to figure out how ramp up his workouts so that he can restore his running fitness, without re-injuring or aggravating his metatarsal stress fracture.

He had a good idea: start doing split workouts in the mornings and the afternoons.

His thinking was that this would allow him to train harder because he wouldn’t get his tired.

Although that may sound like a good idea, it’s actually a terrible idea. And in this episode, I’m going to explain to you why it’s really necessary to pay more attention to the stresses that you were applying to a specific injured structure if you want to get back to running without aggravating your overtrain injury.

It is a simple, but critical principle any injured runner really needs to understand.

If you’re trying to figure out what you’re doing wrong in your routine to return to running plan, or why it’s taking so long for you to get better, you’re probably missing some really small pieces and could make some modifications to that plan that might help you. If you want to talk about the strategies to do that, you can get on a 10-minute strategy call with me by going to docontherun.com and then click on the Talk To The Expert tab. We can jump on a call and try to figure out what you need to do to get back to running a whole lot faster.
