#996 Worst advice ever from a doctor

Today on the Doc On The Run Podcast, we’re talking about the worst advice ever from a doctor.

If you are watching this, you are probably a runner, number one, and you probably have some kind of injury and if you have seen a doctor, I am very curious to know what the worst advice you ever got was.

Now, I see lots of things that are bad. I get lots of runners who seem to have been given very bad advice. Sometimes I am truthfully curious if that is what the doctor said, or if it is just a misinterpretation from the runner themselves.

The worst advice I ever got from a doctor was a doctor who did two knee surgeries on me, and then told me I could never run again, that if I ever did run, I would have to have a total knee replacement within 10 years.

I did not listen. I’m not telling you to ignore your doctor’s advice, but I ignored my doctor’s advice. I kept running. I’m still running. I ran a 50-mile trail race after I turned 50, and I did 15 Ironman triathlons, and a whole bunch of other stuff, and I never would have gotten to enjoy those things had I followed that doctor’s advice. Again, follow your doctor’s advice. Don’t follow my lead on this.

Do what your doctor says. However, if you got some, what you think of as really bad advice from your doctor, I want to hear about it in the comments, and if your comments are good enough, I might actually ask you to come on the Doc On The Run Podcast as a guest to talk about that experience, what it meant to you, how it affected your running, and your overall recovery from that particular injury.

I am really curious, what is the worst advice you ever had from a doctor? Please add it in the comments, and if you want to come on the Doc On The Run podcast to talk about it, I would love to hear from you so other runners can learn from you. Add it in the comments, and maybe I will see you on the Doc on the Run podcast.
