#735 Bedrest is like Chemo for Runners

One of the most powerful ways to reduce stress and strain on any piece of injured tissue is to get completely off of your feet. Bedrest can do that.

I was talking with a runner recently who asked a great question,

“Should I just do bed rest?”

I answered,

“Bed rest is like chemo for runners.”

With chemotherapy, we’re basically giving you a powerful drug.

But is it going to kill the tumor first, or is it going to kill the patient first?

Bed rest is like chemotherapy for runners, and that’s what we’re talking about today on the Doc On The Run Podcast.

#446 The advice to rest is a lie

The premise is that your crazy physical activity is the problem.
The promise is that you will heal if you simply sit still.. long enough.
The hope is that recovery will magically take place through sacrifice like a perverse form of penance for your exercise sins…crazy.
But a prescription of 100% Rest only guarantees 100% loss of fitness.
Today on the Doc On The Run podcast we’re talking about the advice to rest is a lie.

#311 Rest is an atrophy plan

Can you get faster by not running?

Can get stronger by not working out?

If you’re a runner and you’re listening to this my guess is that you’re clear answer to both of those two questions is “NO!”

And if your answer both of those questions is no…

Why do doctors call rest a treatment plan?

The brutal truth is that rest is not a treatment plan.

Today on the Doc On The Run podcast were talking about how rest is an atrophy plan.
