Dr. Segler supports the Chattanooga Community Kitchen where those in need receive foot care at no cost. He has committed to helping assist Brother Ron Fender in his foot ministry. Brother Ron is a Gregorian Monk who is also a case worker at the Community Kitchen. Dr. Segler and his wife heard Brother Ron speak at the Church of the Good Shepherd one time when back on Lookout Mountain. Volunteering care for the homeless was something Dr. Segler has done when he lived in Houston and San Francisco. “Although those cities do have much larger homeless populations, the needs are still great in Chattanooga,” say Dr. Segler. He quickly offered his medical expertise and supervised UTC nursing student in providing foot care evaluations and treatment on Wednesday afternoons. Together these groups are working together to create national models for helping vulnerable populations to utilize podiatric care. The Chattanooga Community Kitchen underwent massive remodeling and expansion in 2009. The brand new addition includes respite rooms, education centers and a state-of-the-art foot care room.
