#339 You are only one step away

Today on the doc on the run podcast, we are talking about how you are only one step away.

Today the Doc On The Run Podcast, we’re talking about how you’re only one step away.

Every run begins with one step. Right now, you are doing one of two things. Either you are getting stronger. Or you are getting weaker. You are never staying the same. That is the biggest problem with recovering from an injury. Doctors typically tell you to stop running and then you get stuck in a trap of decreasing fitness, increasing stiffness and you actually become more prone to re-injury.

Most recovering runners are missing the key step that will change everything.

Almost all runners who call me just need to take one step to change course. My job on that call is to help you identify and recognize the step you are missing. Then and only then can you take the next right step to accelerating your recovery and returning to running.

All of the courses I created like the Metatarsal Stress Fracture Course, The Runner Heel Pain Course, The Plantar Plate Sprain Course, they all help you figure out what step you are missing.  Sometimes, you are doing the right treatment for the wrong problem. Sometimes you are doing the wrong treatment and it is making the problem worse. Figuring out what you are doing wrong is a key step to recovering faster. Figuring out what step you are simply ignoring and failing to take is another key step.

But in all cases, whether in person with a coach, on a webcam call with a running doctor, or on your own through all of the video training in the courses, you have to figure out what step you need to take to make progress.

And if you are listening to this podcast, no matter where you are in your course of recovery, you are missing a step.

You are one step away from figuring out whether you need a fracture walking boot, or not.

You are one step away from figuring out whether you should stop wearing the fracture walking boot, today.

You are one step away from gaining more flexibility, while you recover.

You are one step away from building strength, while you recover.

You are one step away from decreasing the stress to the healing tissue so you can ramp your activity now.

You are one step away from deciding if you really have a stress fracture or just a stress reaction.

You are one step away from taking the pressure and stress off that injured tissue so it can heal faster.

You are one step away from figuring out whether your current activity level is too much or not enough.

You are one step away from getting your balance back before you run and injury yourself.

You are one step away from testing yourself to see if you are ready to run.

You are one step away from reducing the inflammation.

You are one step away from getting the tissue swelling down.

You are one step away from preventing rebound inflammation.

You are probably only one step away from your next run.

You are one step away from running hard and training without pain.

What step if missing for you?

What are you going to do to take the next step?

Don’t fool yourself. There is no middle ground. Take action now and do something today. Decide what the one action is you can take today. Take that step and you will get back to running faster.
